Rocco is a pup at heart, full of beans and loves to play. He is a joyous happy lad keen to engage with his humans and join in the fun. He loves the attention of humans on his walks and visits, and he gets plenty of admirers with his puppy looks, soft floppy ears, plush coat, and cute snaggle tooth grin. In his foster home occasionally he catches his reflection in a mirror and is shocked to see another devilishly handsome gentleman suddenly appear. Who is he, and why is he so good looking?!
In between his naps for the day, Rocco is systematic in playing with his toys, preferring to rotate through them and carefully select a new victim (er, playmate) with each session. He can also be a magpie with shoes; fancying himself a purveyor of human enrichment games, in the morning you might find yourself involved in a hunt for where your left shoe has been relocated to. The best part of the game for Rocco is to go with you from room to room in the search, tail wagging in delight at his own mischief.
Rocco is a very smart cookie. He loves training and is keen to please. He knows several commands such as ‘up’, ‘down’ and ‘ping-pong’. He was quick to learn touch training and jumps in and out of the car like a pro (he loves the drive and makes a wonderful co-pilot for your errands). He loves his walks but can be a startled by loud, unexpected noises. He much prefers hopping into the car to drive to a quiet local park or green space as opposed to strutting busy streets. Rocco can also be overbearing on the lead towards small dogs (standing over top of them and not respecting their space), he is working on his manners and learning not to crowd his little friends and pay more attention to their cues, but we would not recommend that he have regular close contact with small dogs, particularly in an off lead environment.
Initially Rocco was in foster care with two other greyhounds, but after a disagreement over a high value treat led to a scuffle he is now trying life as an only dog in the home, and is rebuilding his confidence around other greyhounds. With the patience and love of his foster carer, and the support of behaviour medication, he is making great progress putting the incident behind him.
As a big-time lover of people and attention, Rocco prefers his humans WFH. He just wants to be close to you, and while he will check in on you he enjoys a bed close by to the action so he can get in his naps, between playtime, and the occasional lick mat or puzzle feeder (if it is on offer). When it’s time to clock off and head to the couch, Rocco loves a cuddle and will remind you he needs more attention with a not so subtle nudge, a paw on your lap, or sticking his snoot under your arm.
Our Rocco is a sweet and loving boy who is looking for an active home with the patience to entertain him and then enjoy his evolution into a demure gentleman in the coming years.
