Adoption Enquiry

Thinking about welcoming a greyhound into your home? We’d love to learn a little more about you, your household and the kind of home you can offer.

Before completing the form, please note the following adoption requirements:

  • Your property is securely fenced, with fencing at least hip height.

  • Your greyhound will be welcome to sleep inside at night.

  • Your greyhound will have regular companionship. Many greyhounds are not suited to being left alone for more than four hours on a regular basis without a person or another dog for company.

Every home and greyhound is different, so please don’t be discouraged if you do not meet every item on the checklist. You are still welcome to apply, and we will consider your circumstances individually.

Please provide as much information as possible in your application. There is no word limit, and the more we know, the better we can assess whether one of our greyhounds may be a good match for your home.

Please note that Gumtree Greys is based in Victoria and is currently unable to arrange interstate adoptions or foster placements

Our Adoption Process

Our adoption process is designed to help you find a greyhound who is a good fit for your home, family and lifestyle.

Application → Introductory Call →‍ ‍Matching Discussion → Meet-and-Greet → Adoption

Once we receive your application, a member of our volunteer team will contact you for an introductory call. This is an opportunity for us to learn more about your home and lifestyle, discuss what you are looking for and answer any questions you may have about adopting a greyhound.

We will then discuss suitable greyhounds with you and, when we identify a potential match, arrange a meet-and-greet. This gives you the opportunity to spend time with the greyhound and decide whether they may be the right fit.

If everyone is happy to proceed, you will pay the adoption fee and sign the adoption contract before welcoming your greyhound home.

Every adoption includes a two-week trial period, giving you and your greyhound time to settle in and make sure the match is right. Our team will be available to offer advice and support during this time. If the adoption does not work out within the trial period, the greyhound can be returned to our care and your adoption fee will be fully refunded.
