A bit of a slow burn kind of lad, Roger is very well behaved and polite but can be reserved at first and takes his time to warm up. Once he’s settled in he enjoys a snuggle and will pop by to check on what you’re up to through the day, but he isn’t intrusive and is content not to shadow you around - he is even happy to hang out for a whole work day so long as he has access to the toilet. Roger’s foster carer likes to play a game with their colleagues called “is Roger awake or asleep” and everyone takes a guess before checking the petcam, he has an untarnished record of always being asleep!

Although he’s the king of chill when left behind, you will still have a big happy hello on your return home. Roger loves to greet his humans excitedly and will treat you to chatters when you offer him pats and scritches, but like a true gentleman he won’t jump on you or knock you over.

Roger loves his walks and doesn’t pull at all on the lead, but he is working on some freezing and much prefers to choose his own routes. His foster carers have done great work with teaching him how to change directions and growing his confidence with loud noises and busy streets, but his forever home should be prepared to continue this training to help him adjust to the new environment and routine. Roger does find walking with another dog much more fun than going alone, and twice a week he meets up with a cavoodle friend, content to stroll along together they choose not to interact or play, it’s all about the shared sniffari. This has really helped Roger’s social skills with other dogs, and while majority of the time he still opts not to greet on lead, he has started to say hello to other calm dogs. He can become a bit unsettled seeing dogs running off lead (this is more excitement than fear, fast motion looks fun!) so avoiding the local dog park or unofficial off lead area is best.

Although Roger hasn’t been fostered in a home with children, he is very sweet with those he has met out and about, and happily accepts pats and fuss from them (he may try to lick them though!). We think he would be a lovely addition to a family with dog savvy kids, he shows no signs of resource guarding or problems with sharing space and loves to show off by throwing his toys for himself and zooming around, but he is always careful of his humans and never jumps or bumps into anyone.

Roger’s only vice is that he will not abide a sleep in. If you’re awake and he knows it there is no laying in allowed, he’ll gladly sing you the “wake up let’s go for a walk” song until you oblige. And really, with a face so cute and so excited to get out and spend time with you - who could be mad about that?
