Himmel’s Happy Twist of Fate

At Gumtree Greys, every dog who comes through our doors has a story. For Himmel, a six-year-old Greyhound German Shepherd cross, that beginning arrived in the most beautifully unexpected way.

Our Foster Coordinator, Courtney, had recently decided she was ready to open her home to another foster dog, with one important condition: they needed to be cat friendly. As any greyhound lover knows, greyhounds who have lived safely alongside cats are rare gems.

Then, almost as if fate had stepped in, Himmel’s previous owner contacted Gumtree Greys for help Himmel had been a much-loved family pet for four years after being adopted as a rescue, but with his family moving overseas, he needed a new home. When we discovered Himmel had previously lived with cats, Courtney didn’t hesitate.

She put her hand up to foster him, and Himmel wasted no time settling in. In fact, if Courtney’s circumstances allowed, she admits she would have “foster failed” on his first night.

Himmel is people-focused, affectionate, friendly and bursting with life. His big, joyful personality is exactly what makes him so endearing. Everywhere he goes, he turns heads and collects compliments.

Soon, this loveable boy will be ready for adoption, and we know the right family is out there. Himmel is looking for a loving home where he can be included and given the wonderful life he deserves.
