Stocky Brockie: A very special first dog

Meet Brockie, a lovable “Stocky Brockie” who has completely stolen the heart of his adopter, Izzy.

After dreaming of adopting a greyhound for years (and successfully convincing her parents after meeting some Gumtree Greys hounds at the market!), Izzy took Brockie home in October last year as a very first dog. And what a perfect first dog he has turned out to be.

Like many greyhounds, Brockie needed a little time to find his confidence. In those early days, even walking to the end of the driveway felt frightening, and the sound of a small dog barking could bring everything to a standstill. But with Izzy’s patience, kindness and gentle support, Brockie’s world has grown beautifully.

Fast forward six months, and this once cautious boy now loves his walks, especially when there are other dogs to greet along the way. One of his favourite outings is the greyhoundwalk in St Kilda, where he enjoys catching up with his fellow hound friends.

Brockie has also discovered the joy of toys (a very exciting milestone!) and now delights in playtime and backyard zoomies. His personality has blossomed as he’s settled into home life, revealing a sweet, goofy boy who never says no to cuddles or belly rubs.

One particularly special milestone was Brockie’s very first Christmas in a home, spent at Nan’s house, surrounded by family, cuddles and plenty of well-earned snoozes. After spending his earlier life in kennels, it was a beautiful reminder of how life can change when a greyhound is given the chance to feel safe, loved and part of a family.

Izzy describes Brockie as simply as the sweetest, goofiest companion, and feels incredibly lucky that Gumtree Greys brought him into her life.
