Celebrating Our Volunteers
Meet Courtney, Foster Coordinator and Socials
How long have you been volunteering with Gumtree Greys?
Roughly 12 months.
Do you have a greyhound (or a foster)?
I have an 8yo greyhound, Cosmo, who came to me in early 2023. He is a professional snootervisor, and his favourite things in the world are walks and croissants (or anything in a brown paper bag, really). He can be a bit socially awkward, but he loves hanging out with his with his greyhound buddies. We have a lot of fun at Farmers Markets, where you can usually find us lounging at the Gumtree Greys stall. I also recently fostered Johnny, a big, cuddly goofball who’s currently on his adoption trial.
What’s the most surprising thing you’ve learned about greyhounds?
The fact that they are considered one of the oldest dog breeds.
What do you enjoy most about your volunteer role?
Getting to see our rescue hounds from day 1, seeing their “glow-up” first-hand once they are safe and in loving homes.
What’s something you’ve learned since volunteering with us?
Skills and advice that have truly helped to better the relationship I have with Cosmo, and that greyhound people are the coolest!
What’s one thing you wish more people knew about fostering or adopting greyhounds?
It’s amazingly rewarding. Helping these sweet dogs adjust and discover all the wonders the good life has to offer is a feeling that’s truly hard to put into words.
Describe your greyhound in three words.
Adventurous, clever, hungry.
What’s your favourite greyhound quirk?
So hard to choose just one! Zoomie spins, ear hats, and pictures where the only thing in focus is the nose.
Is there anything else you’d like to share with our community?
Volunteering with Gumtree Greys has been one of the most rewarding things I’ve ever done. I’ve met some of the most amazing people, and I’m forever grateful to be part of such an outstanding community. Please come and say hello if you ever run into Cosmo and me while out and about. I love to talk about greyhounds!
