Rocco is a pup at heart, full of beans and always ready for playtime. He is a joyous and happy lad who loves to make a new human friend out on his walks, and he sure gets plenty of admirers with his puppy-ish looks, soft floppy ears, plush coat, and cute snaggle tooth grin.
In between his naps for the day, Rocco is systematic in playing with each of the toys in his toybox, preferring to rotate through them and carefully select a new victim (er, playmate) for each session. He can be a bit of a collector with shoes; fancying himself a purveyor of human enrichment activities, in the morning you might find yourself involved in a hunt for where your left shoe has been relocated to. The best part of the game for Rocco is to go with you from room to room in the search, tail wagging in delight at his own mischief.
A smart cookie, but not just in it for the treats, Rocco really loves training and is eager to please. He knows several commands and was quick to learn touch training and jumping in and out of the car like a pro (he loves the drive and makes a wonderful co-pilot for your errands).
Rocco loves his walks but can be a startled by loud and unexpected noises, this is getting much better the longer he has been in foster care - but he is happiest hopping into the car to drive to a quiet local park or nature reserve as opposed to strutting along busy city streets. When out walking, Rocco can be overbearing towards small dogs (standing over top of them and not respecting their personal space), he doesn’t understand that his size difference can make him a bit scary to little mates! His manners are much improved with gentle guidance and exposure, but this is something his forever home should expect to continue to work on to ensure he is a polite and gentle friend.
Initially Rocco was in foster care with two other greyhounds, but a disagreement over a high value treat ended in a scuffle so he is now adjusting to life as an only dog in the home and is rebuilding his confidence around other greyhounds. With the patience and love of his foster carer, and the support of behaviour medication, he is making great progress and has attended many Gumtree Greys events getting to socialise with lots of new greyhounds.
Rocco loves his humans so very much that he wants to spend as much time together as possible. His WFH foster is the dream, a companion always available to provide him kind words, ear rubs, and maybe even a little snackie through the day. While he will check in on you and enjoys a bed close by to snootervise from, he otherwise makes an unobtrusive companion and promises not to disrupt your Teams calls, he is happy to nap when you need to lock in. When it’s time to clock off for the day he’ll encourage you to head on over to the couch for a little snuggle session! Rocco loves a cuddle and if you find your attention drifting elsewhere he will remind you he is present with a not so subtle nudge, a paw on your lap, or sticking his snoot under your arm.
The ideal companion for a retiree lifestyle, people looking for a shop dog/office companion, or a WFH human in need of a snootervisor - this certified sweet bean has so much love to give to a home who promise that he won’t be left behind.

GUMTREE GREYS ADOPTION PROCESS:
Step one submit our online application form, you can nominate a specific dog or express your interest generally
Step two a Coordinator will touch base via email to set up a phone call so we can get to know you a little better, and help to find your pawfect match
Step three once we have made a match we’ll reach out with the details, and to set up a meet and greet
Step four pending a successful meet, we will touch base via email with our Adoption Guide, any relevant handover notes, and a request to finalise payment of the adoption fee ($350) and sign our trial agreement
Step five start your two week adoption trial! On handover day we will drop off your precious cargo and their gear (collar, Gumtree Greys ID tag, lead, food, coat, and toy), you will also receive an email inviting you to ‘Petcademy’ (Gumtree Greys provides our adopters access to unlimited messaging with certified behaviour professionals and a library of over 100 hours of video content for training advice). During the trial period your Coordinator will touch base to see how things are progressing, and assist with any settling in issues. At the end of two weeks if the trial is successful you will sign your adoption agreement and we will complete the paperwork to transfer your dog into your name via the GRV Microchip Registry.
In the unlikely event a trial is not successful, we take the dog back into care and will refund your adoption feeStep six lifetime support and community access.
